RULES
Due to the volume of submissions in the qualifying round, participants only receive one score. The material is judged on a scale of 10, with 10 being the highest possible score. It will take 2-4 weeks for the marks to appear. Once the scores are in, we take the top 128 people and split them into pairs, where the highest scores go against the lowest. This strategy prevents the strongest qualifiers from clashing at the start of the tournament and gives those less experienced an opportunity to compete against someone from the next level.
***The number of pairs in the tournament could vary depending on the volume of material sent in.

Paired Rounds
Once the pairs are formed, participants must stick to the topic of the round and find ways to challenge their opponent. This is a battle! The more clever angles and punchlines you find, the better you select the flow and the beat, the greater your chances of advancing to the next level.
In this stage, during paired rounds, judges get 2 to 4 weeks (depending on the round and number of entries) and are required to score each track in each pair as follows:
Lyrics and Rhymes: How clever are the lyrics? Consider patterns and their complexity, and the ability to stick to the subject and confront the opponent. 0 to 5 points.
Flow/Delivery/Cadence: 0 to 5 points.
Personal overall opinion of the judge: 0 to 2 points.

The judges are asked to leave a comment for each pair, explaining why and how their choice was made.

Each participant in each pair will be judged as stated above, and each judge will have to state a preference in each pair. An uneven number of judges will allow us to determine winners. Pairs are formed in the same fashion—highest points go against the lowest.

The absolute maximum of points you could possibly get in a paired round is 12.
